There are many ways to save money at Rite Aid. Some of the programs are new like the +UP Rewards and some are well established like Single Check Rebates, but any way you cut it, Rite Aid is one of my FAVORITE places to shop! You will be amazed at the savings you can get by just participating in the programs.  This post is SUPER LONG, but I wanted to have one place you could come to get a glimpse of everything you need to know about Rite Aid.

You can see Rite Aid’s COUPON POLICY and how it spells out exactly how to use multiple coupons there.  You have the ability to combine manufacturer coupons along with various store coupons – video values, in-ad coupons, wellness coupons and more.  You will want to become familiar with this well detailed policy!

Rite Aid Wellness Program

The Rite Aid Wellness Program is new this year and you now need to have a wellness card in order to receive most of the sale prices in the flyer.  It is FREE to join and you can even just pick up a card right in the store, but remember to activate it online so you can receive all the additional savings including a $5/$25 Rite Aid coupon and more.  Just have the cashier scan your card before every purchase.

The Art of Shopping Gymboree

Gymboree’s Circle of Friends Sale begins tomorrow Thurs 11/4 – Sun 11/7.  Get 30% Off Your Entire Purchase in stores OR online using code GYMFAMILY.  Looks like for a limited time, shipping is only $5.  Plus earn $25 Gymbucks for every $50 spent.

Now if you know me, you will know I am NO retail clothes Maven – I need some serious HELP!  I have been lucky enough to have BINS and BINS and BINS of hand-me-downs for my kids, but sometimes the stains and styles are too far gone.  I LOVE Gymboree clothes, but lets be serious – they are WAY TOO EXPENSIVE.  Then I saw my new bloggybootcamp pal Dianna (a pure bread Kentucky gal with the southern charm & drawl to prove it) tweeting about Gymbucks and knew she was the one who could school us on the art of shopping Gymboree.  So lets WELCOME Dianna and learn from her Gymboree prowess.

The Art of Shopping Gymboree

I’ve been in love with Gymboree fashion for over 15 years. I don’t have an unlimited budget for these expensive togs for tots, but I can share my tips with you for getting the most out of your Gymboree dollar.

1. Gymboree Mailing List

Signing up for the Gymboree mailing list gives you the best notices of upcoming sales, promotions, as well as coupons.

Gymbucks

2. Gymbucks

Think frequent shoppers club, with a twist. During Gymbucks earning periods (approximately four to six times per year), every $50 you spend nets you $25 in Gymbucks. These can be spent during the redemption period for money off your purchase – Buy $50 of merchandise, cash in $25 Gymbucks, and you spend $25 out of pocket. You can even buy Gymbucks on Ebay, earn them with Gymboree Play and Music classes, or beg them from your friends! I stick to the sale strategy described on Loobalee – I earn Gymbucks on sale items, and spend them on sale items, maximizing my savings.

Gymboree Rewards Program

3. Gymboree Rewards Program

Become a member of this simple program, and Gymboree tracks your purchases, Periodically, this translates into dollar off coupons which can be stacked with sales, other coupons and Gymbucks. Another bonus? Gymboree rewards members can shop a day early in storewide and online sales!

Gymboree VISA

4. Gymboree VISA

Interested in opening a credit card? (It’s not something I do, but it can save on your purchases) New enrollment will get you a $10 enrollment bonus, 5% on all purchases on Gymboree.com, inside the Gymboree store, as well as the Gymboree Outlets. 1% of all other purchases will earn 1% toward a Gymboree gift card.

5. Get Personal

Get to know your local salesperson – I have a favorite local saleswoman that I ADORE! I can call her and tell her what sizes I’m looking for, and she will have them waiting for the store. She helps me get the best deal for my dollar by bringing out deeply discounted items from the stock room.

Gymboree shorts for boys

My boys, in Gymboree Skate Legend shorts they will wear next summer, too

6. Shop end of season for next year.

I’m buying next summer’s wardrobe NOW at rock bottom prices, and stocked up for this fall right after Christmas last year. If you’re skilled at estimating what sizes your children will be wearing 6 months from now, this is the way to go.

7. Stack a coupon with a sale.

Periodically, Gymboree will host storewide sales with 25 to 30 percent off everything. Save your coupons for events like these, where you can add the coupon to the sale, and you’ll end up with a 45 to 60 percent discount. For a total hat trick – do this while earning Gymbucks, for the best bang for your buck!

8. Connect with Gymboholics

Looking for moms like you, who are crazy about Gymboree? You can chat about Gymboree lines, past and present, and peruse the Gymboree line pictures at GymboFriends.

Trying to identify an item you have? Want to figure out what line you have, and need more of? Take a peek at Gymbohaven’s extensive list of past and present lines.

Want more ways to chat it up with other Gymbo moms? Check out Gymboplace for more tips.

9. Go Second Hand

Are you a fan of Ebay? If I’m not shopping at the Gymboree store, I’ve found some of my best deals on new and gently used outfits on Ebay.

Love Goodwill and thrift stores? Keep your eyes peeled – I’ve managed to find a lined Gymboree raincoat and other pieces there. Consignment stores can be a treasure trove for Gymboree goodies — I just picked up some sweaters, button down shirts and vests for the boys – all marked down.

My most successful venue for buying and selling used Gymboree are the seasonal consignment sales in my area. Never been to a sale? Check out my tips on how to shop without knocking yourself out. Need to clean out your closet? Here’s the tutorial on how to get started with selling your children’s clothes.

What about you? Have any tips that I’ve missed here? Let’s learn from each other, since the biggest sales of the year are coming soon!

When she’s not scanning the racks for the best Gymboree deals, you can find Dianna writing at The Kennedy Adventures, where she talks about faith, family, and raising identical twin boys!

Friday Funny: Don’t Buy Stuff You Can’t Afford!

This is a classic Saturday Night Live skit, but its is scarily good advice!

Don’t Buy Stuff You Can’t Afford.

hmmm – seems logical…

practical…

DUH!!….

then WHY CAN’T WE DO IT??

Why do we continue to buy things when we do not have the money?  Why are we lured by sales pitches and the CRAZY commercialism that makes us think we cannot live without material things?  Why can we not understand the simple MATH… if you do not have the money you end up paying more in the long run…

whether it be paying more interest on the debt…

missing out on saving for the things we do need…

I continually see people who have trouble meeting their monthly financial obligations – rent, food, electric bill – still having their nails done, going to concerts and buying the latest fashions.  I want to shake them and say…

HELLO!!!!!

DON’T BUY STUFF YOU CAN’T AFFORD!!

What do you think?

15 Things You Shouldn’t be Paying For… and 10 more too!

This article from YahooFinance lists 15 Things You Shouldn’t be Paying For.  These are things you may not normally consider getting for FREE.  If you are paying for some of these now, look into it to reduce your expenses.

Exercise Credit Card Pets
Your Credit Report Debt Reduction Help Shipping
Cell Phone Basic Tax Preparation Checking Account
Books The News DVD Rentals
Water Budgeting Tools Basic Computer Software

Do you agree?  Why or why not? I wholeheartedly agree with MOST of them.

A year ago I would have said “cool” and started to look into those.  However, since I started couponing, my list of things I do not need to pay for has grown.  It started off small, but then as I learned to STOCKPILE it has grown and grown and grown.

Before I go any further, please understand that I began with baby steps and one drugstore – CVS. Since then I regularly get “FREE” items using coupons, loyalty programs, catalina’s, and rebates at drugstores, grocery and office supply stores.  Based on that, here are what I think you can get on a regular basis for FREE or very close to FREE:

  • TOOTHPASTE/TOOTHBRUSHES – OK, seriously, unless you are a toothpaste snob or have some other need to only have a particular type/brand (which I completely understand) – you should never have to pay for toothpaste again.  I would venture to say there is probably FREE toothpaste somewhere almost every week.  CRAZY – Huh??  Don’t believe me??  Scroll thru the list of weekly drugstore deals and I bet you will find it FREE somewhere.  Kids toothpaste is a little harder…
  • MOUTHWASH/Rinse – especially Listerine – there are tons of Listerine coupons that seem to never expire – LOL!
  • RAZORS – not refills, but good razors that have a couple extra blades in them.  Of course you can also get disposable razors FREE.
  • DEODORANT – this one is tricky since a lot of people only use one kind – my hubs will only use clear solid, but you can get it FREE all the time
  • BODY WASH – LOVE the FREE body wash.
  • SHAMPOO. CONDITIONER, STYLERS – even the good stuff, John Frieda and others
  • SANITARY PADS/PANTI LINERS - again, not all brands all the time.  Stayfree frequently has BOGO coupons you can use on BOGO sales for 2 FREE.  Last summer I went NUTS (just started couponing) and I actually bought 22 Stayfree and made a $30 profit. Lately there has been FREE U by Kotex as well!
  • TOILET PAPER – Marcal coupons get you FREE TP all the time, but you can also score great deals on Cottonelle and Scott at the drugstores as well!
  • CEREAL – not always the brands you want, but catalina deals and coupons can get you FREE cereal

Other than that CRAZY Stayfree thing last summer, I normally do not get tons of extra coupons.  This list is based on what I normally get with 2-3 inserts and printable coupons.  If you work the grocery catalina deals, this list can get much longer.  Some would add Laundry detergent to the list – though I find those deals are sometimes harder to work.  My next favorite would be copy/printer paper for next to nothing all the time at Staples!

What do you see missing from the list?  What do you pay NOTHING for?
