This is a classic Saturday Night Live skit, but its is scarily good advice!
Don’t Buy Stuff You Can’t Afford.
hmmm – seems logical…
practical…
DUH!!….
then WHY CAN’T WE DO IT??
Why do we continue to buy things when we do not have the money? Why are we lured by sales pitches and the CRAZY commercialism that makes us think we cannot live without material things? Why can we not understand the simple MATH… if you do not have the money you end up paying more in the long run…
whether it be paying more interest on the debt…
missing out on saving for the things we do need…
I continually see people who have trouble meeting their monthly financial obligations – rent, food, electric bill – still having their nails done, going to concerts and buying the latest fashions. I want to shake them and say…
HELLO!!!!!
DON’T BUY STUFF YOU CAN’T AFFORD!!
What do you think?

I had this happen to me a few times, a lot more in the past year. The latest was on last weeks Huggies wipes deal, the $2.50 manf. coupon rang up for only $1.99 so I told the cashier who manually entered in a .51 cent coupon for the difference. I think Target set up the coupons (in the system) to ring the coupons for no more that the product value itself (wipes were $1.99) but they did not consider that some coupons may apply towards more than one item. I really hope they get this fixed fast before they turn into another Walmart.
I did that when I first started couponing. I thought that I was getting the best deals and that I needed to get them or there wouldn’t be other deals. And ended up spending WAY too much money. Well since then I have read on many different blogs that deals will come back around every 3 months or so. After reading so many times I finally made a budget I thought I could live with and still take advantage of those deals. So I’m better now, but it really is amazing how dumb and stupid people can be with their money. Hope that didn’t sound too harsh for some people.
I also like to listen to Dave Ramsey, and he always tells people straight up what they should be doing, and I listen and take his advice. I figure when I’m debt free and HAVE the money I can get my nails done and go to concerts all I like. But I really don’t like doing that stuff. I mean really what’s the point in seeing the person in concert when you can buy the CD and the cost is so much less than a ticket. ya know!?
Sorry I took up a lot of space and went off on a tangent!!
Thanks for the laugh!!
That is a great clip.
People these days are always living way beyond their means.
