NEW Rite Aid Coupon Policy

Rite Aid has released an updated Coupon policy to clarify things since the roll out of +UP Rewards. Here are the details that have been emailed to all stores. Here is the exact wording:

Rite Aid – Coupon Acceptance 8/2/10

Rite Aid gladly accepts the following coupon types as detailed in the coupon acceptance guidelines listed below:

COUPON TYPES:
Manufacturer coupons

  • Manufacturer coupons are found in newspapers, magazines and even affixed to products. The UPC on these coupons begin with a “5.”

Rite Aid Manufacturer Coupons

  • Rite Aid Manufacturer coupons generally appear in our weekly circular, on our website and are sent to customers via emaill. These coupons are labeled “manufacturer coupon” and have a UPC that begins with “49.”

Rite Aid Valuable Coupons

  • Rite Aid coupons are labeled “valuable Coupon” and have a UPC that begins with “48.”

Internet/Print at home Coupons

  • Rite Aid will accept Internet/print at home coupons up to the equivalent value of $5.00 off.
  • A Rite Aid coupon (with the Rite Aid logo) is NOT considered an Internet coupon (even if printed off the internet) and is therefore not subject to the $5,00 maximum.

+UP Reward Coupons

  • +UP Reward coupons are special coupons earned by a customer in a prior purchase that can be used for any non- prescription purchase with a small number of exclusions that are listed on the +UP coupon. Multiple +UP coupons can be used (subject to the printed exclusions) up to the amount of purchase before sales tax.

Buy One, Get One Free

  • We accept two coupons for the purchase of two items that are on Buy One, Get One Free Promotion.
  • We accept a Buy One, Get One Free Coupon with an item that is in our flyer as Buy One, Get One Free, meaning both items are free. The cash register will compute any sales tax due, which varles by state law.

Total Purchase Coupons

  • Rite Aid may feature total purchase coupons which discount the total purchase amount based upon meeting specific requirements. For example, $5 off a $25 purchase price threshold coupon.
  • These coupons are accepted under the Following conditions:
      * The coupons must be valid and in date; only one total purchase coupon per transaction.
      * Total purchase equals or exceeds $25 before tax (before any coupons are applied).
      * Coupons for Individual Items can also be used including another “48″ coupon that is tied to an item In the transaction.
      * Provided the total of items purchased Is equal to or greater than the purchase requirement, other coupons can be used in conjunction with the total purchase coupon.

ACCEPTANCE GUIDELINES
General Guidelines:

  • Coupons must be valid and in date; Coupons cannot be exchanged for cash.
  • Register will validate coupon through scannlng or keyed entry of the coupon UPC number.
  • In the event that any Item’s selling price is less than the value of the coupon, Rite Aid will accept the coupon In exchange for the selling price of the item. Coupon redemption can never exceed the selling price of an Item and no cash back is allowed.
  • When making a return for a product that had a coupon attached, Rite Aid cannot refund cash for the value of the coupon and cannot return the coupon that was used.
  • Rite Aid reserves the right to not accept any coupon where the validity of the coupon cannot be established.

      * No more than one “48″ Rite Aid valuable coupon, one “49″ Rite Aid Manufacturer coupon, and one “5″ Manufacturer coupon can be used on a single item.
  • Rite Aid may accept multiple identical coupons for multiple qualifying items as long as there is sufficient stock to satisfy other customers within the store manager’s sole discretion.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
So that is it… Here is the pdf – Rite Aid Coupon Policy. Though this has some clarity, there will still be some learning curves.  You may want to print it out if you typically have issues at your store.
Currently we have been able to use 1 mfg, 1 video values and 1 in-ad coupon per item as clearly advertised in the flyers. HOWEVER…
  • VideoValues $$/$$ start with RC48
  • VideoValues individual item coupons start with RC49
  • In-ad q’s start with RC49 (eg: the zegrid, motrin 7/18-7/24/10) OR RC48 (eg: Ace from week 7/25-8/1/10)
  • Wellness q’s start with RC48
Hopefully they will become consistent with the coding on the in-ad coupons, otherwise it is going to be a nightmare, BUT I guess clear UPC guidelines is a help.  There are also manufacturer coupons that begin with “9″ – I am not sure how they will deal with those.  Only time will tell…  stay tuned for more…
You can see all the ways to save at Rite Aid in Rite Aid 101.
    Do you know what the rules are for using buy X get 1 free? For example I have a Q that is buy 1 get 1 free for Old Spice deodorant. I also have one that is buy 2 Old Spice deodorant get 1 Secret deodorant free. Could I buy 2 Old Spice and 1 Secret and use both Qs?
    • Lynn says:
      Amy – that is a complicated one… not sure there is a specific answer – one school of thought is that you are still only using 1 coupon per item – the B2G1 for the Secret and the BOGO for the Old Spice. BUT some may think it is a double dip since both require an overlap on the must BUY products.
  2. Mindy says:
    I can’t seem to link up to the Rite Aid PDF for their new coupon policy that you had a link for on your site.
  3. Kristin says:
    I’d also like to know if we can still use coupons printed out from Redplum multiple times (printed out x2 from each computer)?
  4. Rose says:
    Do we know if we are only able to get one item that receives an up reward now? For example if I buy X and you get $1 up reward and go back later that week and buy the same thing will I get an up reward second time? It seems it is being limited now.
  5. Stacey says:
    I went into RiteAid yesterday with a $5 off $20 vv coupon that would not scan even though it was printed on the same sheet of paper as other vv coupons that scanned perfectly. The store manager attempted several methods of entering that coupon to no avail. The register would not let her enter it! She had their “new” coupon policy out that stated if it will not scan they can not accept it. I will give her credit for trying everything under the sun but could not make that coupon work. She even told me that with the new policy they cant even override the system anymore—it wont let them. I feel she was very sincere and spent a great deal of time on getting it to work. I dont feel that she was just trying to get out of letting me use the coupon. She also told me that they have an extremely hard time getting RA coupons to scan. What are we suppose to do to be able to use these coupons? She didnt know the answer to that, but said that since they put the new policy in effect it has left them with their hands tied because the registers wont let them override it. Any thoughts?
    • Marcia says:
      All coupons can be entered manually. If the coupon does not scan then Rite Aid doesn’t get paid for it by the manufacturer but manually entering coupons can be done, I do it every day. In the case of the $5 off, it is not a manufacturer sponsored coupon so it does not matter anyways. She probably tried to do it under “vendor” but should have hit “RA” for Rite Aid coupon then entered the amount. Next time that happens, since I know some printers don’t make the bar code readable or the ink is too thick and scanner can’t read…..tell cashier to enter first 11 numbers (not including the two letters the code starts with of course) of the bar code then hit “lookup”. The coupon policy did change but we can still override the system, that wasn’t changed at all.
      • shaz says:
        so you can use all 3 coupons for 1 item 1 starting with 5 ,49 ,last with 48? I knew I could stack 2.Please let me know.Also will the parmacy match competors coupon.thank you
  6. Kim says:
    The manager at my RA told me this week that their “new” policy won’t allow them to accept internet printables exceeding $5 in one transaction. I clarified what he was saying and it is this: If I had a $3/1 Huggies coupon and a $2.50/1 Huggies coupon to be used in the same transaction the sum of those two printables would exceed $5 and he wouldn’t be allowed to take them. (he said there was no limit on newspaper q’s) That’s not what this policy above states…..I am reading the policy to say ONE printable can’t exceed $5. Anyone else have this issue??
