I hardly ever buy Jello or Pudding snack cups – I just cannot stand to spend the money. The other day both my daughter and husband begged me to get them so I did. It killed me – but they loved them. Now I could keep my eye out for coupons and wait for deals and stockpile – yadda, yadda, yadda – you know the drill.
Then as if divine intervention, I got this newsletter and awesome idea from Molly over at Econobusters -
MAKE YOUR OWN!!
I heard the angels singing and a huge AHA over my head. I know making jello and pudding at home is much cheaper, but I cannot stand the film that is created in the bowl (ICK !), nor could I figure out a way to make them mobile for lunches. Then came Molly’s idea – use Glad’s Mini Rounds.
I searched high and low and finally found them at Stop & Shop for about $3.50 – I did not have a coupon, but needed to try to see how it worked. It is a small investment to save in the long run (assuming my family does not toss them in the trash
). Molly was right – the large boxes of jello fit perfectly into the 8 mini-rounds! My kids and husband are ecstatic! Now I just need to get another set of mini rounds so I can have pudding and jello in the fridge at the same time. What a GREAT FRUGAL IDEA!!

This is great, THANK YOU my son just started preschool and I am new to the bring your own lunch. This will be a welcome addition to his lunches

Teresa – THANKS – great idea!
Hehehe I feel your pain on spending money on pre-made jello/pudding packages. I have never seen Glad’s mini-rounds nor thought about looking for them, but we have a restaurant supply store that sells condiment to-go cups with lids. They are a nice size and 1 regular size package of jello is enough to make 4 cups. I also use the cups to make frozen yogurt and they are strong enough to weather the freezer temp.
I have just recently tried to think of a way to do this so thanks so much!
