Stop & Shop GM Catalina | FREE cereal?

So how have you been doing with the Stop & Shop General Mills Buy $20, get $10 catalina this week?  I will be honest, I did not have it in me to figure out scenarios and my stockpile is ample at the moment.  If I have time, I was going to work some out for the food pantry.

BUT I received a message from reader Shari who told me that there was an unadvertised cereal deal that is part of the catalina -

Currently the small boxes of GM cereal (for sure, the Lucky Charms (3.69), the Cinnamon Chex (3.39), Cocoa Puffs (3.49), Cinnamon Toast Crunch (3.49) and Trix(3.69)) are 2/3.00.  Six boxes of these cereals reaches the presale price of 20.00.  Sale price only comes to 9.00.

So Shari is paying $9 (or less with coupons) and getting a $10 catalina – you do the math = FREE CEREAL!!  SO I HAD TO GET SOME FOR THE FOOD PANTRY!

My store it is also on sale for 2/$3, some stores are 2/$4 – so check your flyer.
$0.75/1 Chex cereal
$0.75/1 Chex cereal
$0.75/1 Chex cereal
$0.75/1 Chex cereal
$1/2 Select General Mills Cereals, exp. 4-17-10 (SS 03/07/10)
there may be a few more out there… let me know if you find any!

My shelf prices are actually a little high so make sure to check yours, but make sure you are getting the correct size – they are onsale for 2/$3 and have a tag right there saying they are part of the promo.  I do not have time right now, but will be back with coupons links…  Here is what I just did:

6 Cocoa Puffs (20.94) $9
6 Cinnamon Chex (20.34) $9
total = $18
- $9 using (6) $0.75/1 Chex coupon doubled
- $3 using (3) $1/2 General Mills 3/7 SS
final = $6, got (2) $10 catalinas!!

Even if you have no coupons, if your presale price is over $20, you can buy 6 for $9, get $10 catalina.  It does double, meaning you can Buy $40, get (2) $10 in one transaction.

If your sale price is $2, pay $12, get $10 for 6 boxes – still a great deal!!

    Oh Maven,
Are you trying to get me out in the rain today?
REALLY! How can I not go and support my food pantry now….

My husband is contemplating building an addition on to our house out of my cereal stockpile! (kidding)

Momma – I know – if the baby did not need to nap, I would be headed out again! Food pantry will be getting lots this week!

Keep it mind 2/3.00 is not the price everywhere! it is still a great deal at 6 for 12 get back 10 before any coupons. Also if you run out of prints you should get a catalina for 2.00/4 gm cereals! so even roll if you have the 2/4.00 price! I will be stocking up as i no longer have shaws :(

  4. Maven of Savin' says:

Anon – THANKS I will add that, I did not know they were not 2/$3 everywhere – THANKS!!

This looks like a great deal! I tried the GM Catalina already with frozen vegetables but it did not print. I got 6 Steamers and 4 Cascadian Farms boxed veg which brought sale price to $20. Of course Customer Service said that the problem was that I used coupons but at least they were nice enough to give me $10 cash since they could not get the CAT to print either. I wish I could figure out why these CAT's don't print for me often. There must be something that I am doing wrong…perhaps I should not scan the coupons with the merchandise but I should hit "Finish & Pay" and then hit the "Coupons" but on the self-checkout?

  6. Maven of Savin' says:

Mama – it is not because of coupons – I hate that argument. More often than not, you inadvertently grabbed a certain UPC that was not included. If you want to email me what you got, I can try to find a UPC list.

I was also able to get 6 packages of pillsbury cookie dough (psp 3.49 ea) for 15.00. I used 3 $1/2 for a total of 12.00. I then got back a 10.00 cat and a 4.00 cat…so it was a 2.00 money maker! I have to say, it is kind of a pain using the cats at stop and shop though because they do not "roll" like the ones at Shaws….but FREE stuff is FREE stuff!

Another idea is 7 boxes of Gogurts (psp 2.79 ea). On sale for 2/$5. Seven of them came to 17.50. Used 7 .40/1 coup for total of 11.90. Got back 10.00 cat. So 1.90 for 7 boxes of gogurts!! My kids LOVE these and they eat them frozen!

I've never done a catalina deal at S&S before. Is there an order to which we scan our purchases: items, store card and then coupons? Thank you in advance :)

  10. Marcy says:

I'm so bummed that I didn't try to figure something like this out yesterday when I was planning my trips! Today I went to Stop & Shop, Shaws, CVS (twice), Walgreens, and RiteAid all with my tired tot in tow and a midwife appointment in the middle! Crazy day! I guess when I head back out for more Doritos at Shaws I will also be grabbing some cereal at Stop & Shop!

  11. Maven of Savin' says:

Shari – why do you think they do not roll? My cat would not scan, BUT I am thinking it is an issue with the cat, not the rolling part. I just bought cereal and other stuff – WELL OVER $10 – and the $10 cat would not scan. They tried to manually enter it and they ended up entering as a competitor coupon – but the new cat did print. So I wonder if there registers have trouble accepting them all the time? This is my first cat at Stop & Shop. Would love to hear your experience.

  12. Maven of Savin' says:

Anon – some people find it helpful to wait until you scan everything BEFORE you scan your card to ensure you have reached the $20 in GM items. But other than that, it does not matter the order you give them. Anyone else have a preferred method??

  13. Maven of Savin' says:

Marcy – you had quite a day. I made it to Walgreens for my BACON, but have not hit CVS or Rite Aid yet. We'll see – all the rain and the kids – who knows.

  14. Shari says:

    Lynn,
I'm not sure….this was my first time doing cat deals at stop and shop. I wouldn't say it was horrible, just not as smooth as Shaws…a cashier told me that unless there is a 10.00 item for the cat to "attach" itself too, the register won't take it and it has to be manually entered….kinda a pain when you're doing multiple transactions…but overall they've been very nice and helpful……

used the Cat that I earned yesterday from the granola bars/veggies today and it wouldn't scan either. The cashier at my S&S said it was happening to everyone and just entered it manually.

I also bought lots of Celeste Pizzas this week with the .75/10 coupon and lots of the 1.00 minute maid drinks, some yogurt and veggies (with coupons). Spent very little money and earned over 1,100 gas points! That's $1,100 worth of groceries lol! Hubby filled the car and several small gas tanks we had all for $1.46 a gallon. Huge for us since he has a long commute.

  16. Marcy says:

Just a note on order of things at Stop & Shop. I learned that you have to have your card scanned BEFORE you scan in coupons. If not, the qualifying coupons will not double.

  17. Maven of Savin' says:

Marcy – YES that is the same in most stores! The doubling is a REWARD based on loyalty card use.
