BigUniverse.com is an award-winning education website for grades K-8. This engaging web community uses beautiful picture books to instill the love of reading, writing and learning, while providing an anywhere-anytime, standards-based, education resource that connects teachers, students and parents.
There is the Big Universe Reader where you can read 100′s of fiction and non-fiction books. You can search for books based on grade level, categories, age and more. There are also books with quizzes, making this a GREAT resource for teachers, home schooling, and for building reading comprehension.
I had not even thought of this, but if you are a teacher with SMARTBOARD technology, what a wonderful and visual way to share books… and they have quizzes!
I spent a lot of time reading books with my kindergartener and she LOVED it. First I was amazed how quickly she was able to navigate the mouse pad on my new Mac laptop – I still struggle – LOL. The books are beautiful and the way the pages actually turn make you feel almost like you are reading a hard copy book. She especially loved to turn the pages.
Once you are done with a book, you can choose to put it in your bookshelf – so you do not have to search to find it again. Let me tell you the thought that D put into deciding on each and every book whether it was shelf-worthy! There is an entire Big Universe Community that shares their bookshelves and you are able to see how many others put it in their shelf and how many recommend that book as well as others they recommend.
I am blessed because all my kids LOVE TO READ! They devour books. My kids love to own books, they LOVE to go to the library, BUT they also LOVE to use the computer. BigUniverse can tie these 3 loves together with one great big bow – AND I did not have to slosh out in the snow to get more books during this school break week! If your kids do not like to read, most kids DO like the computer. This is a great way to try to get them more interested in reading and with the HUGE assortment of titles, I am sure there will be something for everyone.
