The Muffin

I have a love/hate relationship with Dunkin Donuts.

I LOVE the regularity of swinging in every morning for my iced tea and muffin.

I HATE the money I am spending and the CALORIES!

So I decided to start to try to make my own iced tea at home and eat a healthier breakfast snack. The tea should taste the same – right? Well it does not!

… is it the ice,

… is it the lack of a disposable, bad for the environment plastic cup,

… OR is it the straw?

I do not know. I actually considered hanging onto my next cup and re-using it for my home brew to see if I can shake the Dunkin Donuts habit. So last week I head there to get my “last (snicker, snicker)” cup that I will re-use and decided for one last hoorah to get a chocolate chip muffin. I usually get the low-fat blueberry, but since it was going to be a while, I figured why not. I felt a little guilty riding home as I justified that I had not really started the “diet/exercise” regimen yet. I get home and get all comfortable in my chair with my lap top excited to check my blog messages and enjoy my muffin – I open the bag…

Now, I do like corn muffins, but this was my last hoorah AND I had suffered the last 20 minutes of GUILT, shamefully telling myself it was OK to enjoy the chocolate chip one.

Was this a sign from above?

…or from my hips!

So this morning as we were running late, my daughter asked if we could get a donut before school. I said yes because there really was no way to feed her before we left AND I forgot to keep my cup from last week. The intention was to get her “usual” – always strawberry frosted with sprinkles and she tells me the colors of every sprinkle on there (since they change with the season) – and my LAST iced tea.

I pull up to the drive through and the mystery voice says… “Would you like to try our new TRIPLE CHOCOLATE muffin?”

triple chocolate muffinand I say YES… just for the JOY of it!
